There are 3+ million teachers in the U.S and each year thousands of them are nominated for National Teacher of the Year. This year, the four finalist were chosen for their ability to develop the minds and character of their students as well as inspire social awareness.On Tuesday May 3, 2016, during a White House celebration honoring some of the nation’s top educators, President Obama awarded the 2016 National Teacher of the year honor to Jahana Hayes, a social studies teacher at John F. Kennedy High School in Waterbury, Connecticut.
